Des Moines’ BLK & Bold Co-Founders Appear on “The Ellen Show” Thursday

Local business BLK & Bold Specialty Coffee Roasters is celebrating four years in business with a national television appearance this week.

On Thursday, BLK & Bold co-founders Rod Johnson and Pernell Cezar will appear on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” as part of the program’s final season.

BLACK and bold is a specialty coffee roaster and tea wholesaler from which Johnson and Cezar started Cezar’s Des Moines garage in 2018. Since then, the duo have grown their business to become the first black-owned coffee company with nationally distributed products.

However DeGeneres made her final bow on her longtime talk show last week, the program continues through the summer with guest hosts. Johnson and Cezar speak to Dwyane Wade, scoring the former professional basketball player’s first time with the Miami Heat the guest hosted the show.

This isn’t the first time that at least one of the coffee company’s co-founders has appeared on reality TV. At the beginning of this year, Cezar appeared on “Bet on Black”, a “Shark Tank” reality show where black entrepreneurs compete for $200,000 to support their business. In this program, Cezar was a mentor for the 25 competitors.
