The recalled onions, imported from Mexico and supplied by ProSource Produce of Idaho and Keeler Family Farms of New Mexico, were sold to restaurants, food outlets, wholesalers, and retail or grocery stores in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

So far, an outbreak of salmonella linked to onions has resulted in 808 illnesses in 37 states, including the Golden State. According to the FDA website, between 11 and 40 illnesses have been reported in California.

Nearly 157 people have been hospitalized across the country in connection with the outbreak, according to the FDA.

Keeler Family Farms issued a voluntary recall of whole fresh red, yellow and white onions imported from Chihuahua, Mexico on Friday between July 1 and August 25. These onions contain a label with the words “MVP (product of MX.)”

Two days earlier, ProSource Produce issued a voluntary recall of the same product imported between July 1 and August 31. A complete list of information on the recalled products is available in the recall announcement from ProSource Produce LLC.

Onions have been distributed to wholesalers, general food service customers, and retail or grocery stores in:

Recalls have also been launched by the following companies that have sold contaminated onions or products containing them:

Consumers who may have purchased the onions or are unsure if they did, should immediately discard these products and sanitize any surfaces that have come in contact with the onions.

Signs of salmonella poisoning include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, which usually appear between six hours and six days after exposure to the bacteria. People under 5, over 65, and people with weakened immune systems are more likely to suffer from serious illness.

In some cases, the infection can spread from the intestines to other parts of the body and require hospitalization.

The CDC encourages anyone with symptoms of salmonella poisoning to contact a doctor, write down what they ate the week before they became ill, report the illness to the health department, and contact the investigators. health about his illness.
