In the first tranche, market sources said exports of around 5 million tonnes could be allowed. This could be increased by another 2.5-3 tons only after assessing the price situation and the supply-demand scenario

As sugar production is expected to reach nearly 40 million tonnes (mt) in the 2022-23 sugar season (from October 1), the central government may consider a policy allowing exports of around 8 mt of two-slice sweetener, trade and business sources informed.
